Ingredients
2 cups Red Wine (cooking wine works fine)
1/2 cup SEEDLESS blackberry jam or preserves
1/2 cup applesauce
2 tbsp butter
1/2tsp habanero pepper powder (use cayenne pepper powder if you need a substitute)
1 fresh mint leaf (optional)
Preparation
Using a sauce pan, bring 2 cups of red wine to a simmer over medium heat. Using a whisk, stir in 1/2 cup of seedless blackberry jam or preserves. Next stir in 1/2 cup of apple sauce and 2tbsp of butter. Add 1/2 tsp of habanero powder and 1 fresh mint leaf. Stir together and simmer until the mixture begins to thicken. Stir regularly to prevent the sauce from sticking to the pan. When the sauce has thickened sufficiently, remove from heat and pour into a glass bowl to cool. Enjoy!
Serve hot or cold, the choice is yours. I suggest you place a sheet of plastic wrap over the bowl so that the plastic touches the sauce. This will prevent a skin from forming on the top of the sauce.
If the sauce is too sweet for your taste, only use 1/4 cup each of jam and applesauce.
