lb extra-lean (at least 90%) ground beef

cup chopped green bell pepper

tablespoons chopped onion

teaspoon garlic powder

3/4

cup ketchup

tablespoon maple-flavored syrup or brown sugar

tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

whole-wheat burger buns, split

Preparation

In 8-inch nonstick skillet, cook ground beef, bell pepper, onion and garlic powder over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked and vegetables are tender; drain.

Stir in ketchup, syrup and Worcestershire sauce. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer uncovered 2 minutes. Spoon mixture into buns.
