Ingredients

1 C. butter or margarine

1 1/2 cup sugar

3 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

3 1/2 c. flour (sifted)

2 tsp. cream of tartar

1 tsp. soda

1/2 tsp. salt

Ornamental Frosting:

1/4 cup butter or marg

4 c. powdered sugar

2 egg whites

1 tsp. vanilla

1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

A little milk or cream (to make spreading consistency)

Preparation

Cream butter, add sugar gradually. Add the eggs 1 at a time. Stir in the vanilla and add the dry ingredients. Chill overnight or for 3 to 4 hours. Roll out and cut into desired shapes. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 6 to 8 minutes at 350 degrees.
