Ingredients
3/4 cup butter, divided
1 cup onion chopped
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef/chuck
10 oz. frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained well
1/3 cup chopped parsley
16 sheets filo dough ( frozen food section), thawed
1/3 cup chopped fresh dill or 1 tsp. dried dill
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. grated fresh lemon peel
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 lb. feta cheese
2 eggs
Preparation
In skillet, melt 2tbs. butter.Add onion, saute until translucent, add ground beef, cook. Drain. Add spinach, parsley,dill, pepper, lemon peel, salt. Simmer 3 min. or so. Remove from heat. Add feta cheese and eggs, mix well. Melt remaining butter. Brush one sheet of filo dough with melted butter. Place sheet of filo dough in baking dish. Allow edges to hang over sides. Stack 7 more sheets on top, individually, brushing each sheet with butter, placing one on top of another. Trim or fold sheets to fit pan.
Spoon beef mixture in pan. Cover with the rest of filo dough, layering and buttering as before. With spoon, tuck excess filo dough that hangs over under the outer edges of pan. Brush the top sheet with butter. Score top of filo dough diagonally with knife. Bake at 375 for 40-50 min., until golden,
When done, slice like lasagna, horiz. and vertically to make square serving pieces.
