Ingredients
1 28 oz can Pastene ground peeled tomatoes
1 28 oz can Pastene ground peeled tomatoes chunky style
3 tbsp chopped garlic
4 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup sugar
6-8 leaves fresh basil
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
2 tsp oregano
Preparation
Put olive oil and garlic into a large pot over medium heat. Saute the garlic very lightly DO NOT let garlic brown.
After garlic has sauteed for a minute or two, add both cans of tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano, and sugar. Bring sauce to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Once sauce starts to bubble, reduce heat to low and cook for a couple of hours, stirring occasionally. About 1/2 hour before serving, cut basil into small pieces and add to sauce.
